Pianist Ivo Kahánek and conductor Jakub Hrůša have won the Anděl Award

What projects will they work on next?

Prague - June 20, 2020 - Pianist Ivo Kahánek and conductor Jakub Hrůša, who have recently made a successful recording in collaboration with the Bamberger Symphoniker, have won the Anděl Coca-Cola 2019 Prize in Classical Music for their joint recording of piano concertos by Dvořák and Martinů.

The Anděl Award will join many other awards which the recording has gathered both in the Czech Republic and all over the world, including the highly prestigious BBC Music Magazine award. According to critics the CD has, practically speaking, already secured its place among other staples in its field.

"I especially appreciate the award because the votes come from fellow musicians and professional music critics, or, in other words, those who know all the tricks of the trade," says pianist Ivo Kahánek: "The other nominees – be it Pavel Haas Quartet or Benewitz Quartet – are world-class artists and any one of us could have been given the award."

"The Bamberger Symphoniker, one of the best European orchestras in its own merit, have relied on inviting and cooperating with top Czech artists since the beginning of my work there," explains Jakub Hrůša, Chief Conductor of the ensemble, who is also the main guest conductor of the Czech Philharmonic and Philharmonia Orchestra in London: “The project on which we collaborated on with Ivo Kahánek has become an absolute highlight in every way imaginable. I am extremely pleased that our CD is gaining interest among critics and music connoisseurs alike.”
