Ivo Kahánek Articles

During the prestigious Monte Carlo festival Ivo Kahánek will take part in a piano roulette

4 concerts in 1 evening

The foremost Czech pianist Ivo Kahánek will be faced with a precarious task on the 25 March at the Auditorio Rainier III at 20:30: he will have to stand up to the competition of splendid world-class pianists at the prestigious Printemps des Arts de Monte Carlo international festival. What is more, they will all ‘compete’ within one evening, each presenting a challenging piece from the piano repertoire. Ivo Kahánek will carry the Czech flag with his favourite piece by Bohuslav Martinů – “Incantation“, which he will perform together with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo under the baton of Jean Deroyer

Ivo Kahánek’s experience with the piece is more than extensive, and he has had enormous international success playing it e.g. with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the BBC Proms under Jiří Bělohlávek’s baton, or with the Berliner Philharmoniker, which invited him as only the second ever Czech performer to play with them and Sir Simon Rattle.

Ivo Kahánek was invited to participate in other events during this festival, itself an unusual thing, to perform such repertoire which will again present the rich Czech cultural heritage at the cutting-edge international playfield: at the Monaco Opera Gariner on 24 March he will play, among Chopin’s music, Janáček’s Sonátu “From the Street“ and „Trois Danses Tscheques“ by Bohuslav Martinů.

The Printemps des Arts de Monte Carlo Festival welcomes a host of top artist from all over the world every year. The family of the Duke of Monaco are the patrons of the festival, instigating its foundation in 1983 and frequenting its events ever since.
